Continuing on the theme of the last post, all followers of Christ want to know [...]

Continuing on the theme of the last post, all followers of Christ want to know God’s will. Easy to want, not so easy to find. Or is it?

As mentioned previously, many believers have learned that the only way to not miss the will of the Lord is to sit and wait on Him until He speaks. There is some merit to this way of thinking, but I tend to think this method works best for those who have been commanded to wait.

For the rest of us, we may find ourselves waiting too long with no answers. Our faith is tried and tested, and we lose heart if we wait too long. The question we must each ask is, did I miss God by waiting and doing nothing?

I know women who wait for decades for the right man to come along. They believe that God will drop him in their path, or they USED TO believe that until they lost hope. I see that happen and I wonder. You’re not getting any younger. What are YOU going to do about it?

Wait a minute! How does that fit with finding the will of God?

I used to scoff the saying “God helps those who help themselves.” Maybe I still do. It was a cliche born from the desire to remove laziness. Maybe it wasn’t on point. So let’s revise it:

What are your real passions? Evaluate them. Seriously imagine yourself about to pursue each one. Where does it feel right and good? Go after THAT. Ask God for wisdom and direction, and He will direct your path.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path (make your paths straight).

If God makes your path straight, that means He will keep you from straying, but YOU HAVE TO DO THE WALKING. Don’t sit idly by.

As cheesy as it sounds, the cliche is true: It’s a lot harder to steer a parked car.
