God’s Promises: I Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You

As we enter the new year, a desire stirs in my heart to search out, read, study, memorize, and understand the promises of God in Scripture. For if I’m to renew my mind, I must know who He is, who I am, and what He has given me in order that I might live the abundant life. And to know what He’s given me that I’m not experiencing already, I need to know what He’s promised me.

This is how renewing your mind works. The Holy Spirit leads you to Scriptural truth; if you read it and don’t believe it, you confess your disbelief and choose with your will to repent and turn away from believing ideas that disagree with Scripture. Then you tell Father God that your heart is open to receive His truth and to walk in it. Ask for His power to walk in it.

So here we go. January 2nd, 2010…

Psalm 143

Hear my prayer, oh Lord! Listen to my plea! Answer me because you are faithful and righteous.

That cry tells my heart something new. It tells me to expect God to answer because he is faithful and because he is righteous. In other words, God’s character is such that I can expect Him to answer. He is near to me even now, and will not ignore me. Tell me more about a God like that!
